Guanidine nitrate is a colorless leaf crystal precipitated from water, with moderate toxicity. Its molecular formula is H2NC(NH)NH2HNO3, which is white and granular. It is soluble in water and ethanol, slightly soluble in acetone, and can be decomposed and exploded at high temperature. Melting point: between 214 ~ 216℃. There is a risk of ignition explosion when exposed to high heat, violent collision or contact with an open flame. Mixed with sulfur, phosphorus and reducing agents, there is a risk of forming an explosive mixture. Mixtures with nitrocompounds, chlorates, and strong acids are sensitive to vibration and friction and can cause explosions. Store in a cool place to prevent high temperature. Guanidine nitrate should be isolated from combustibles, organics, nitrocompounds, chlorates or acids. Loading and unloading should be light, liner reinforcement to prevent collision and friction, if there is leakage should be immediately cleared.

Guanidine nitrate and Guanidine hydrochloride, guanidine carbonate, guanidine phosphate are commonly used in the production of sulfaguidine, sulfadiazine and other sulfanilamide drugs and nitroguanidine, guanidine carbonate and other guanidine raw materials, also used in photographic materials and disinfectants. In industry, guanidine nitrate was prepared by the reaction of dicyandiamide and ammonium nitrate.

Guanidine nitrate on the pesticide is not only the raw material of pesticide imidacloprid, used for synthetic of intermediates nitroguanidine, also can be used for a variety of sulfonylurea herbicides intermediates, such as bensulfuron methyl, pyridine cycling, chlorimuron-ethyl. In addition, it is also used in the synthesis of sulfa drugs and explosives, photographic materials, disinfectant of raw materials. It is used for testing guanidine in complex acid and preparation of explosives. It is also used as disinfectant to make guanidine carbonate and other guanidine. It is also used for making photographic materials, disinfectants and explosives.
